Celebrating the launch of SE24’s solar PV installation at Walworth Methodist Church

July 2nd saw the launch of SE24 Sustainable Energy’s latest solar PV installation. 76 solar panels are now installed on the roof of Walworth Methodist Church (see picture A).

These panels will

  • provide cheaper, greener electricity for the church and for all the community groups meeting on the premises.
  • help them shift towards renewables, leading the way for other churches and community groups.
  • Additional funds generated by selling surplus energy to the national grid, will be used to support and maintain the Southwark Peace Garden (see picture B) which the church created in its courtyard in response to violent crime in the neighbourhood.

This is the third church building that SE24 have partnered alongside its other three installations at a hospice, a school, and a swimming pool.

This project has been grant-funded with an LCEF grant covering the research and feasibility costs; and the British Airways Carbon Fund covering the capital and installation costs.

Community Energy Fortnight

The launch formed part of a major public meeting for Community Energy Fortnight which celebrated the achievements of community energy groups in South London – hosted by SE24, SELCE and Repowering London and featuring expert speakers – including Helen Hayes MP, and representatives from Southwark and Lewisham councils who lead each borough’s response to the Climate Emergency.

SE24 project update – all Phase 2 sites now ready for commissioning

SE24 project update – all Phase 2 sites now ready for commissioning

Alan Jones, Chair of SE24, reports on the current installation:

“All SE24 solar arrays at St Christopher’s and Dulwich College are now installed, generating  and earning revenue!

There are still a few minor snagging items that need to be completed before final commissioning and handover, which should be by the end of May.

Once commissioned we will then be able to finalise the costs of this Phase 2 programme.

What will happens then for our investors?

  • It is likely that the costs will be less than the capital we raised in our share offer last summer. So a proportion of the unspent capital will be returned to investors.
  • A first dividend will be paid (comprising capital and interest payments) to Phase 1 investors by the end of June
  • All investors in Phase 1 and Phase 2 will be issued with share certificates.

This Phase 2 project has taken significantly more time than was first expected, but I hope that all investors will understand the challenges we have faced through the harsh winter with limited site access.

These projects have given SE24 a strong platform for the future – providing benefits for site owners, investors and the wider community.

SE24 is already working on plans for the more installations in summer 2018.”

SE24 project update

The past couple of months have posed significant challenges for us. A combination of harsh weather and restricted working hours in the unexpectedly harsh winter, plus our need to work around the site access restrictions at Dulwich College have all delayed…

We’re dreaming of a green Christmas

We’re dreaming of a green Christmas

Over the autumn SE24 proceeded with solar PV installations at St Christopher’s Hospice and Dulwich College.

Since our last update, progress was slower than we had hoped and expected. But having overcome each new challenge, we expect to have all the promised installations complete and generating clean, green electricity in time for that beautiful spring sunshine we are all looking forward to.

Here is the latest from each of our locations.

St Christopher’s Hospice, Lawrie Park Road

The main St Christopher’s installation has been generating green electricity since early November. We are so pleased to see all our hard work resulting in some real community benefits (saved money for the hospice) and environmental benefits (saved CO2 emissions).

In 2018 there will be a formal opening of the installation to which all SE24 investors and friends will be invited (hopefully including a sunny rooftop photo opportunity). We will send you an invitation as soon as we agree a date.

Dulwich College

There are two separate sites at Dulwich College:

Lord George Building

Our contractors cannot work on this site during term-time, so our first array was installed in the autumn half term (see photo below).  The second array and associated electrical works were scheduled for the first week of the Christmas holidays with final commissioning and start of generation in 2018.

Swimming Pool Building

This site is not subject to the same working restrictions as the Lord George Building and our hope had been to start installation in November.  However, because of the complexity of the leasing arrangements we did not get sign off until early December. However, we are now on site, the installation process has commenced, and we hope to complete both arrays before Christmas.

This installation should also be commissioned and ready to start generation by spring.

Once all installations are complete we will be able to re-calculate the projections made in the Share Offer document and issue share certificates to investors.  .
